A Creative Space for Growth and Expression

ArtWorks Studio is a vibrant art program for adults age 18 and older, located inside LifeWorks Lodge at 500 West International Airport Road in Anchorage, Alaska. Established in 2019, ArtWorks was created as a specialized studio for individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) to have a place where creativity is encouraged, friendships are built, and every artist can shine.

At ArtWorks Studio, each artist is recognized for their abilities, not their disabilities. We recognize that art has the power to build confidence, foster independence, and create a sense of belonging. Here, creativity is not just an activity, it’s a pathway to purpose and self-expression. Classes incorporate a wide range of art forms: painting, drawing, sculpture, crafts, and mixed media, allowing each artist to find what inspires them most. These sessions also help strengthen cognitive and fine-motor skills while encouraging safe social interaction and peer connection.



Learning Beyond the Studio

ArtWorks doesn’t stop at the studio door. We offer scheduled community outings, complete with transportation, to inspire our artists and connect their creativity to the world around them.

These experiences include:

-Visits to local museums and galleries
-Nature walks and scenic excursions
-Collaborations with local artists and businesses
-Creative field trips tied to current art study topics

Each outing offers real-world inspiration and opportunities for artists to experience pride, curiosity, and belonging.

At ArtWorks Studio, participants are guided through hands-on experiences that help them develop new skills, express themselves freely, and gain confidence through art. Our ArtWorks Studio Facilitators provide individualized support, helping each artist set goals, explore different art styles and techniques, and measure their own progress.
